17.01.20—20:00    MIRY Ensemble: Lisa Jacobs & Ensemble — HOGENT New Year Concert MIRY Concertzaal concert

‘Where is the snow of yesteryear?’ asked the medieval French poet François Villon. We still have no answer to the transience of life. Winter returns, with different snow and different people. Oblivion, by Astor Piazzolla, and Eugène Ysaÿe’s Les Neiges d’Antan, set a melancholic, introspective tone. Yet Lisa Jacobs et al present a lively New Year’s concert, with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons bursting with life. This composer-priest’s sonnets to the violin concerti are hardly existential. They simply speak of chirping birds in spring and a good glass of wine in the autumn. With the last verse, he replies, ‘This is winter, and what joy it brings!’
