From 23 September 2019, Lars Kwakkenbos will be the new dean of KASK & Conservatorium, the school of arts of HOGENT and Howest. He succeeds Wim De Temmerman.

Lars Kwakkenbos (44) holds a master's degree in Art Sciences and a master's degree in History, both from the KULeuven. In addition to his assignment at KASK & Conservatorium, he is actively involved in #NoFilter, a collaboration of Kunstenfestivaldesarts with Jeugdhuis Chicago and the VMJ-D'Broej and TransfoCollect in Brussels. He was previously an editor and dramaturge at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts and wrote for De Standaard and Klara (2002-2007), De Morgen, Etcetera, Rekto:Verso, A+, De Blauwe Kamer and others. He co-authored the Flanders Architecture Yearbook (2007-2008) and the Culture Plan for Brussels (2009).
Koen Goethals, general director of HOGENT, explains: "The board members of HOGENT recognise a talented and driven person in Lars who, based on innovative and fresh ideas and in close cooperation with all employees, will further develop KASK & Conservatorium into a landmark in higher art education and the arts field. They have every confidence in this and wish him every success. The board also expresses its appreciation for Wim De Temmerman who, through his many years of commitment, has transformed KASK & Conservatorium into the respected institute it is today."
Lars Kwakkenbos is looking forward to his start: "Over the past few decades, our school has developed into a benchmark for contemporary and cosmopolitan education in and around the arts, in Flanders and beyond. I am extremely proud and happy that I can help KASK & Conservatorium and the work of all colleagues and students in Ghent and Kortrijk in the right direction".
